Sue Hodgetts

After careers in both Engineering Design and teaching, I took up art seriously in 2022. It was then that I founded the Lyme Abstract Art Group, based on my passion for abstract art, and the need to pursue a deeper exploration of this often divisive genre with a group of like-minded artists.

Art defines my life … I sketch from life, usually realistically. I explore mark-making and abstract forms while painting en plein air and I enjoy the discipline of weekly un-tutored life drawing, often studying the structure of the human body in skeletal form, away from the model, to better understand what I expect see in front of me.

Reading about abstract artists from the past, I’m mostly intrigued to find out at what point in their career their abstract journeys began and how their styles have unfolded throughout their lifetimes.
