Jayne Avery

For as long as I can remember I have loved working with textiles, whether it be embroidery, sewing or knitting. It was always a joy to scrunch, stroke and gaze upon so many beautiful fabrics and fibres.

Painting and mixed media joined the party when I wrote a children’s book – The Secret of the Golden Cauldron. Not being able to afford an illustrator I embarked upon making dolls of the characters – an amazing learning curve that took me down so many rabbit holes!

Then I needed to photograph them – but what about backgrounds? Not to be daunted I felted, machined and embroidered some and with a book on how to paint with acrylics I painted the rest.

So emerged Jayne Avery, creative butterfly and mixed media addict. I like my art to be textural and colourful – with a touch of whimsy and intrigue.
Further adventures for me will be exploring the integration of textiles, embroidery and paint.
