I’m an award winning abstract and collage artist based in Lyme Regis, by the sea in Dorset. The sea is in my blood as much as painting is. My inspiration is anything and everything to do with the sea, with a bit of a passion for interesting windows and doors.

I grew up by the sea in North Yorkshire and spent most of my childhood on the beach. After completing Art A Level my intention was to study textiles at art school but I moved to London instead and ended up in sales followed by a new career as a food writer and running a children’s cookery school. In 2021 I moved to Lyme Regis, retired from food writing and the cookery school, retrained as a yoga teacher and SUP instructor, took up gig rowing and finally had time to focus on my creative side.

I work in acrylic and have a severe addiction to my gelli plate making collage papers. What is better than glueing and sticking!

Mary is intensely interested in texture and this tends to dominate her more recent work. Her colour palette is often limited, instead using texture as the emphasis. Her more recent work has seen a movement towards collage and collagraphs, the latter being prints made from a collaged plate.
